Rourkela: Sundargarh district police on Friday arrested a 21-year-old man and detained a juvenile in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl on separate occasions over the past several months. A third juvenile suspect, currently in Chennai, is yet to be detained.The statement of the survivor, who is seven months pregnant, was recorded before a magistrate on Friday. She has been placed at a One Stop Centre for care and counselling.The adult accused was remanded to judicial custody, while the minor was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and sent to an observation home.According to police, the alleged incidents took place on different dates between Feb and June. The survivor did not immediately disclose the incidents to her family.The matter came to light earlier this month when her family members noticed changes in her health condition and took her for a medical examination, which confirmed that she was pregnant.Based on a complaint lodged by a family member on Oct 7, police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Pocso Act and the BNS, and launched an investigation.Police said a team will travel to Chennai to detain the third juvenile suspect.Police said further investigation is underway.
