Mohali: A woman working as a salesgirl at a clothing showroom in New Chandigarh was critically injured after being allegedly attacked by her husband with a knife on Tuesday morning. The incident, which occurred around 11am, was captured on CCTV cameras.The victim, identified as Priyanka, 28, sustained multiple stab wounds to her back, arms and upper waist. She was rushed to GMSH-16, where she remains in critical condition. The accused, Hira Lal, was arrested at the scene by the police. According to initial information, he was waiting outside the showroom before carrying out the attack. As Priyanka arrived in an autorickshaw and walked towards her workplace, the accused intercepted her. Following a brief exchange, he allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed her multiple times.Police officials confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Officials said further sections may be added based on the victim’s statement and medical report. Preliminary investigation suggests that the couple had been facing marital disputes for several years. They were married for around eight years and have a seven-year-old son. Due to ongoing conflicts, Priyanka had reportedly been living separately for the past five years. Family members alleged that the accused had a history of physical abuse and substance addiction. The matter reached court, which directed him to pay a monthly maintenance of Rs 5,000. However, he was allegedly irregular in payments, leading to continued tensions. Police sources also indicated that the accused was seen loitering near the showroom over the past week, suggesting premeditation.
