Rourkela: A 28-year-old driver was arrested in Sundargarh district on Monday for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl, resulting in her pregnancy, and later refusing to accept responsibility for her and their child.Police said the accused got into a physical relationship with the girl, then aged 15, after assuring her that he would marry her. The girl subsequently got pregnant and gave birth to a baby girl in Dec 2025. Family members of the survivor said several meetings were held with the accused’s family over the past months to persuade him to take responsibility for the girl and the child. However, he allegedly refused to do so.Left with no option, the minor’s father lodged a complaint at the local police station on Sunday. Following registration of a case, police launched an investigation and conducted medical examinations of both the survivor and the accused on Monday.The accused was arrested and booked under relevant provisions of the Pocso Act and other applicable laws. Investigation is underway, police said.
