Prayagraj: The Pratapgarh police on Thursday arrested a 27-year-old youth for allegedly killing his lover and dumping her body into Gohadi canal recently.The body of the woman, who went missing on March 15, was found near the canal on March 17. Police said the father of the woman had, on March 15, lodged a complaint claiming that her 25-year-old daughter, who was six months pregnant and had returned from her in-laws’ house, had gone missing. While scanning her call details, cops came to know that she was in constant touch with one Anuj Singh.Following the lead, police arrested Anuj Singh of Sangipur. Anuj confessed that he had fallen for the woman and had been talking to her . On March 15, she arrived at her parents’ house and started putting pressure on living with him. When Anuj told her that his marriage was fixed and asked her to return to her husband, she slapped him. Irked over this, Anuj spiked her cold drink and, when she fainted, he strangled her to death and dumped the body in the canal, police said. tnn
