Mangaluru: A man was arrested by the Dakshina Kannada District CEN crime police for allegedly duping a Puttur resident of Rs 2.4 lakh by posing as an insurance company representative and fraudulently obtaining his credit card details and OTP.The accused is Avinash Ramesh Gowda,24, hailing from Maharashtra and currently residing in Krishnarajapete, Mandya district. He was arrested on Wednesday and produced before the jurisdictional court, which remanded him in judicial custody.

The complainant, Yashodhara, a resident of Puttur, received phone calls from an unidentified person using multiple mobile numbers. The caller claimed to be an executive from an insurance company, and offered to process an insurance policy, asking for payment towards the same. The complainant declined the offer.Subsequently, the accused informed the complainant that the insurance policy would be cancelled and, under that pretext, obtained the complainant’s credit card number and OTP. Using these details, the accused transferred Rs 2.4 lakh by using the complainant’s credit card to another account.In connection with the incident, a case was registered under Section 66(D) of the IT Act and Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the BNS.
