Mangaluru: Mangaluru: A man who allegedly targeted women through online matrimony platforms, married a woman and cheated several others across Karnataka and Maharashtra was arrested and remanded to judicial custody. The accused, Sushanth Poojary alias Sushanth Ankush Poojary alias Sushanth G Karkera, 32, was traced and arrested recently.According to police, the complainant came in contact with Sushanth Poojary through an online matrimony platform. He married her on Feb 2, 2025, at Ghansoli, Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra. After gaining her trust, he gradually collected Rs 6.6 lakh from her and subsequently went missing on Nov 15.
Later, when the complainant made enquiries about him, she learnt that he cheated several women by promising marriage and was already married. Based on the complaint, a case was registered at Kavoor station.The accused admitted to having married a woman from Udupi in 2021, said police. He also confessed to cheating two women from Udupi, two from Mumbai, two women from Bengaluru, and one from Karkala by promising to marry them and escaping with lakhs of rupees from each of them. The accused was produced before the court, which subsequently remanded him to judicial custody. He has cases against him in Urwa, Kota in Udupi, and Arnala in Maharashtra.In connection with the same case, another person identified as Bhaskar, who allegedly introduced himself as Poojary’s brother-in-law and actively participated in the marriage ceremony was held in Mumbai and produced before the court.
