Patna: A 14-year-old girl was allegedly harassed, assaulted and dragged for around 100 metres by a man in Muzaffarpur on Sept 23, with CCTV footage of the incident now surfacing on social media.The accused, identified as Lalit Kumar (20), was arrested by police the same day and sent to judicial custody. The incident took place when the girl was on her way to attend classes near her home, police said.RJD shared the CCTV footage of the incident on social media and questioned the state govt’s handling of law and order through a post on Sunday evening.According to her mother’s complaint, Lalit stopped the girl, allegedly made inappropriate remarks and attempted to drag her towards his shop when she refused to accompany him.The three-minute CCTV footage shows three girls outside a house when screams are heard. A man is then seen grabbing one girl by both hands and dragging her along the road. A woman attempts to intervene, but the accused allegedly confronts her. A motorcyclist later arrives and tries to stop him, following which local residents gather and catch the accused.The girl’s mother alleged, “Lalit had been harassing her daughter for around three months, allegedly stopping her on the way, making inappropriate comments and attempting to remove her dupatta.”She alleged her daughter had remained silent out of fear.According to the complaint, the accused first had an argument with the girl’s mother on Sept 23 before allegedly attempting to take the girl away. When she raised an alarm, he allegedly assaulted her, causing injuries to her leg. She was subsequently treated at Muzaffarpur Sadar Hospital.SDPO (Town-1) Suresh Kumar said police received information about the incident on Sept 23 and immediately acted against the accused.“The accused was arrested the same day and produced before the court, which sent him to judicial custody,” he said.
