New Delhi: A 39-year-old man has been arrested three years after he had allegedly raped a woman at gunpoint, recorded her obscene photos and videos, and blackmailed her into repeated sexual exploitation.Mudit alias Rajvir Chawla was arrested from Nangloi Wednesday. Chawla, who was declared an absconder by a court in Jan last year, had allegedly changed his name and frequently shifted hideouts across cities to evade arrest.DCP (crime) Chandra Kumar Singh said an FIR was registered on Sept 19, 2024, following the woman’s complaint. She alleged that Chawla had befriended her family after meeting her husband in Tihar Jail and gained her trust by asking her to treat him as a younger brother. In July 2023, he allegedly called her to his house, threatened her three-year-old son with a firearm, rendered her unconscious with an injection and raped her. He used her photos and video recordings to sexually exploit her repeatedly, the officer said.Police said Chawla initially tried to conceal his identity after his arrest, but finally admitted his involvement. With seven previous criminal cases, he was also declared a proclaimed offender in a cheating case in Maharashtra’s Nagpur.
