Kanpur: Additional district and sessions judge, Fast Track court, Piyush Siddharth on Wednesday convicted one Ashok Sharma alias Virendra of the murder of a nursing student and sentenced him to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 70,000.According to assistant district govt counsel Ajay Pratap Singh, the landlady of a house where the woman’s body was found had filed a complaint.Landlady Usha Devi of Loharan Bhatta in Kakadeo stated that she had rented a room to Ashok Sharma alias Virendra. On Feb 21, 2016, she had gone to a relative’s house and returned on the evening of Feb 22.On Feb 23, she noticed a foul smell and went to check Virendra’s room. The room was locked. She informed the police. The police broke open the door and found the woman’s body lying there with her throat slit open.During the investigation, police found that Virendra’s original name was Ashok and he was a history sheeter. The police arrested him and prosecuted him for murder, the ADGC said.
