Koraput: A special Pocso court in Jeypore on Monday sentenced a 24-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment after convicting him of raping a minor girl aged 17 years on the false promise of marriage on July 19, 2024.Delivering the verdict, additional district and sessions judge-cum-special Pocso court judge Sanghamitra Dash convicted the man. “The accused has been sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 20,000. On default in fine payment, he will have to undergo an additional six months of imprisonment,” said special public prosecutor P Sanyasi Rao.According to Rao, the court directed that the fine amount, along with compensation of Rs 4 lakh to be provided by the state govt through the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), be paid to the survivor as compensation.
