Chandrapur: District judge-1 and additional sessions judge, Chandrapur PM Gupta on Thursday sentenced Vilas Damodar Randhaye, a resident of Ghodazari in Nagbhid taluka, to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment for repeatedly sexually assaulting a minor girl and threatening to kill her if she disclosed the abuse.According to the prosecution, Randhaye sexually assaulted the girl several times between May 10 and May 25, 2024, when she was alone at home. The girl subsequently became pregnant. The accused allegedly threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed the abuse.Nagbhid police registered a case under relevant provisions of the IPC and the POCSO Act. Assistant police inspector Anuradha Phukat investigated the case and filed the chargesheet before the court.On Thursday, the court convicted Randhaye under Section 6 of the POCSO Act and sentenced him to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs2,000, in default, one month of simple imprisonment. He was also sentenced to six months’ rigorous imprisonment under Section 506 of the IPC. Public Prosecutor Sandeep B Nagpure represented the prosecution.
