Sonipat: A fast-track special court in Sonipat has sentenced a man to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment for abducting a minor girl, taking her to Panipat and sexually assaulting her while keeping her in a rented accommodation for nearly three months.Additional district and sessions judge Narendra also imposed a total fine of Rs 53,000, of which Rs 45,000 will be paid to the survivor as compensation for mental trauma.According to the prosecution, the minor went missing in October 2024 and her family approached Kundli police after failing to trace her. Police registered a case and launched an investigation.The girl was recovered on January 25, 2025, from a rented room in a colony in Panipat. During investigation, police established that she was a minor and added Section 6 of the POCSO Act to the case.The accused, a resident of Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district who was living in Panipat, was subsequently arrested. The survivor alleged in her statement that he had repeatedly sexually assaulted her.The court sentenced him to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment under the POCSO Act and five years for abduction. Both sentences will run concurrently.
