Kanpur: Additional district and sessions judge/special judge PC Act Kanpur Nagar on Tuesday convicted one Mahesh for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by the use of acid and punished him with 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 15,000.The presiding judge also observed that the accused had to suffer another two-month simple imprisonment term if he failed to pay the fine and the period he had spent in the jail during the trial would be adjusted in the sentence.According to assistant district govt counsel Shiv Bhagwan Goswami, the complainant Shanti, a resident of Maikupurwa Cantonment, alleged in her FIR that a dispute had taken place between her son Bablu and a fellow villager Rinku, son of Mahesh Nishad.On Jan 9, 2023, in the afternoon, Bablu was with others near Hardevan temple when Rinku and his father Mahesh reached there. Mahesh was carrying a bottle filled with acid which he threw on Bablu’s face. Mahesh and his son fled after executing the crime.Locals took Bablu to LLR hospital for treatment.After registering an FIR, the police nabbed Mahesh and prosecuted him. The prosecution produced 11 witnesses to prove its case.The presiding judge, in his order, also directed the District Legal Services Authority to ensure the proceedings for damages under the prepared scheme for the victim.
