Bengaluru: A 40-year-old man was found dead in a house on Kithaganur Main Road in Bidarahalli, with injuries to his face and testicles and signs of asphyxiation, prompting police to investigate the death as murder.The deceased, Mubarak Basha, had been living with his wife, Shahina Banu, 37, for the past 10 months. Shahina had been staying in the city for around two years after the couple developed disputes over her alleged extramarital affair.According to a complaint filed by Mubarak’s brother Shahul, a resident of Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu, the family was informed about the death around 1am on Sept 9. Shahina told them that Mubarak had died while using the bathroom.When Shahul and other family members reached the city and sought to see the body, Shahina allegedly refused to show it to them.Shahul initially approached KR Pura police, who directed him to the jurisdictional Avalahalli police. Expressing suspicion over Mubarak’s death, Shahul approached the cops, who inspected the spot and sent the body for autopsy.In his complaint, Shahul suspected Shahina, her mother Haseena Jan, 54, brother Asif, maternal uncles and another person identified as Naheem Ullah. He alleged that Shahina had been living in Bengaluru and was in a relationship with Naheem.Police initially registered an unnatural death report and began an investigation. During the post-mortem, doctors noticed a scratch below Mubarak’s nose, injuries on his chin and a wound on the upper part of his nose. The post-mortem opinion is said to have indicated that Mubarak had suffocated to death and there was an injury to his testicles.Based on the post-mortem findings and statements recorded during the inquiry, police suspect that Mubarak may have been murdered. They have taken up a suo motu murder case and detained Shahina and her mother Haseena for questioning. Other suspects are also being questioned.Mubarak had been running a mutton shop before he moved to the city to live with his wife.
