Alwar: A suspected electricity wire thief was electrocuted while trying to cut a live 33KV line in Bharatpur district late Saturday night, and an accomplice suffered burn injuries, police said.The incident occurred in Ikran village under Chiksana police station limits. Sunil, 30, died on the spot after coming in contact with the high-tension line. His accomplice, Gaurav, suffered burns to his hand and was admitted to RBM Hospital before being shifted to Jaipur, where he is undergoing treatment under police surveillance.Police said Sunil’s body remained hanging from the wire for nearly seven hours. Residents spotted it around 8am Sunday and alerted authorities. Police and electricity department officials disconnected the power supply before bringing the body down. After a post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family.Assistant sub inspector Hukum Singh said police received information about “a body hanging from a 33KV line near an oil mill” and rushed to the spot. Documents recovered from the deceased helped establish his identity. His father, Indrajeet, a resident of Krishna Dham Colony in Mathura, later identified the body.The post-mortem, conducted around 1pm, confirmed electrocution as the cause of death. Police said the body was severely charred, and “one foot got detached due to the intensity of the current.”Police said Sunil and Gaurav are alleged to be habitual offenders involved in electricity wire theft, with four such cases already registered against Sunil. A Bolero vehicle found parked near the spot was seized, and police said they are trying to trace six other alleged accomplices.During interrogation, injured Gaurav told police he and Sunil, along with others, had stolen electricity wires from the same area four days earlier. He said they returned around midnight Saturday to repeat the theft when both came in contact with the current. Police said Sunil got stuck to the wire while Gaurav was thrown aside, and the others took Gaurav to hospital before fleeing.Further investigation to identify other accomplices into the case is underway.
