Mangaluru: A man died after reportedly suffering an electric shock when an iron pipe he was lifting accidentally came into contact with an overhead power line while constructing a shed in front of his shop in Bantwal on Sunday evening. The deceased is Ismail, 58.According to a complaint filed by Mohammed Safwan, 33, a resident of Meramajalu village in Bantwal, his father, Ismail, was involved in an accident between 6.30pm and 7pm.Ismail was erecting a shed in front of his shop. After fixing two iron pipes into the ground, he was lifting another 20-foot-long iron pipe to remove the sand inside it when the pipe accidentally came into contact with an overhead electric power line passing in front of the shop. He suffered a severe electric shock and collapsed on the spot. Safwan immediately shifted his father to a hospital in Padil, Mangaluru, for treatment. However, despite medical efforts, Ismail succumbed to his injuries. A case of unnatural death has been registered at Bantwal Rural police station under Section 194 of the BNSS. Police have taken up further investigation.
