Chennai: A 25-year-old man died by suicide at his residence near Mahindra City in Chengalpet on Wednesday. Police are probing whether debt, including loans taken from online lending apps and losses in trading, drove him to take the extreme step. Police said that, on Wednesday, Manikandan was home alone after his parents went to a hospital. When they returned, they found the house locked from inside. With the help of neighbours, they opened the door and found Manikandan dead.In a suicide note recovered from the house, Manikandan reportedly stated that he had borrowed around ₹50,000 from various sources, including an online lending app. He said he was unable to repay the loan and the mounting interest, which had caused him severe financial stress.Police recovered the body and sent it for a postmortem.
