T’puram: A 50-year-old man died after getting trapped inside a well at Anchalumoodu on Sunday morning. The deceased was Kunjumon, 50, of Chemmakkad Village Junction.The accident occurred while Kunjumon and others were cleaning a nearly 40-foot-deep well. The well had around 15 feet of water. During the cleaning work, an unexpected accident left Kunjumon trapped in the water. His companions immediately alerted the fire and rescue services.A team from Chamakkada Fire Station launched a rescue operation led by station house officer (SHO) Shajahan.The rescue operation proved challenging as the well was deep and had a considerable quantity of water. Fire and rescue personnel took considerable care while entering the well to reach Kunjumon.Senior fire and rescue officer Ziyad, along with firefighters Shefeeq, Bibin Mathew, Sandeep, Vishnu R Pillai, Prashanth Vijay, home guard Pramod and Krishnan Unni, were part of the rescue team. Bibin Mathew and Shefeeq entered the well as part of the rescue effort and reached the victim.The firefighters brought Kunjumon out of the well and handed him over for medical attention. However, he could not be saved.The body was shifted to Paripally medical college hospital for postmortem. After the postmortem, the body was handed over to his relatives.The funeral will be held at the family residence at 12noon on Monday.Police have initiated an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the accident. The exact cause of the incident is also being examined.The accident has highlighted the risks involved in cleaning deep wells, particularly those containing a considerable quantity of water. Safety precautions are essential when undertaking such work.
