Udupi: A 44-year-old daily-wage labourer died after accidentally falling into a well near his house while he was attempting to drive away wild animals from his agricultural land at Muduveri Kodgimane in Halady-76 village of Kundapur taluk.The deceased has been identified as Krishna. According to the complaint filed by his wife Devaki, 40, Krishna cultivated arecanut and paddy on a small plot of land near his house. As the area is surrounded by forest, deer and wild boars frequently entered the farmland and damaged the crops. Krishna reportedly used to visit the plantation four to five times every night to drive away the animals. Between 9.30pm on Aug 20 and 6.30am on Aug 21, he is suspected to have slipped and fallen into a well near the house, while he was on his way to chase away a wild animal. Shankaranarayana police have registered an unnatural death report under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
