Patna: A 30-year-old man, detained for questioning in connection with a financial dispute, was found hanging in the bathroom of Sigori police station in Paliganj subdivision of Patna early Sunday. The police have an inquiry in the incident.The victim, identified as Ajay Manjhi of Chakan village in Gaya district, had been brought to the police station along with two others after a complaint lodged by a brick kiln owner over a monetary dispute.According to police, Manjhi and the two other men were being questioned in connection with a dispute involving brick kiln owner Sharad Yadav. The three were kept in the lockup on Saturday night.Police said a watchman raised an alarm around 4am after noticing that Manjhi had gone to the adjoining bathroom and allegedly hanged himself using a towel. He was immediately taken to AIIMS Patna, where doctors declared him dead.The incident led to a visit by Patna SSP Kartikeya K Sharma, City (West) SP Sanket Kumar and other senior officers, who inspected the police station and reviewed the circumstances surrounding the death. The body was sent to AIIMS Patna for post-mortem.SP Sanket Kumar said a financial dispute between Manjhi and the complainant was under inquiry when the incident took place. “The other detainees were asleep in the lockup when Manjhi went to the adjoining bathroom. He was immediately taken to AIIMS Patna, where he died. An FSL team has examined the spot and an investigation has been initiated. Prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide, but all angles are being probed,” he said.However, Manjhi’s family rejected the police version and alleged that he was assaulted and killed. They accused the brick kiln owner of being involved in his death and demanded a thorough investigation. Police said the exact cause of death would be established after the post-mortem report and further inquiry.
