Bengaluru: An attempt to deposit money in an ICICI Bank cash deposit machine in west Bengaluru took a serious turn after six counterfeit Rs 500 notes were found, prompting the bank to file a case against the depositor.The incident took place at the bank’s branch on 80-Foot Road in Chandra Layout on May 6 but a formal complaint was filed Wednesday. CCTV footage showed the account holder, identified as Babu M, depositing the cash.However, the machine detected six fake Rs 500 notes. The counterfeit notes were automatically rejected, while the remaining, genuine cash was accepted, and Rs 14,000 was credited to the depositor’s savings account.The bank seized the counterfeit currency before lodging a complaint with police after an internal probe.Police registered a case against Babu for allegedly attempting to deposit counterfeit notes. Investigators are now probing the source of the fake notes and whether the accused knowingly attempted to circulate the counterfeit currency.
