Surat: A case has been registered at Sarthana police station against a man for allegedly taking money on the pretext of securing an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ticket for the Surat Municipal Corporation election.According to the FIR, complainant Navneet Navadiya, who was serving as a zone in-charge in AAP, alleged that the accused, Om Prakash, collected money in the name of party funds. Navadiya stated that he was in regular contact with Om Prakash and Aakash Mishra for party-related work and had expressed his interest in contesting the civic polls.As per the complaint, Navadiya was called to Katargam on March 8, where Om Prakash allegedly demanded Rs 18 lakh in exchange for the party mandate. The amount was later negotiated and finalised at Rs 8 lakh. Navadiya alleged that he initially paid Rs 2.5 lakh and later paid further instalments, taking the total to Rs 3 lakh.The complainant further stated that a mandate was later issued in his wife’s name, but it allegedly contained an error. He claimed that despite making the payments, he did not receive a valid ticket to contest the election and later sought a refund.When the money was not returned, Navadiya approached the police and lodged a complaint.
