New Delhi: A 28-year-old man allegedly bludgeoned his wife to death with a storage battery in outer Delhi’s Tilangpur Kotla village over suspicions that she was having an affair. The man later consumed aluminium phosphide tablets and, before dying, confessed to his sister, police said.Nisha (24) and Vinay (28) were married for the past five years and are survived by a three-year-old daughter. They were living as tenants in Tilangpur Kotla for the past seven months. While Vinay worked at a private company in southwest Delhi’s Uttam Nagar, Nisha was a homemaker.Ranhola police station got to know Thursday evening that a man had tried to kill his wife at a rented accommodation on the ground floor of a house. Police found Nisha lying in a critical condition with a head injury.A police officer said that the couple’s daughter was at home during the attack. DCP (outer) Vikram Singh said, “After the attack, Vinay took his daughter and went to his mother’s rented room around 100 metres away. He told his sister, Priya, that around 6pm, he had attacked his wife as she was talking to someone on the phone.” Another officer said the couple argued frequently over the matter.He allegedly asked Priya to go and check on Nisha’s condition. On seeing Nisha lying in a pool of blood, Priya panicked and rushed out of the house. She alerted neighbours, who immediately informed police.Both Nisha and Vinay were taken to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Mangolpuri, where doctors declared them brought dead. Police said their bodies were handed over to family members after postmortem. A murder case under Section 103 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered.
