Bettiah: A 55-year-old man died after being allegedly beaten to death for protesting the harassment of a woman at Pipariya village under the Bagaha Nagar police station area in West Champaran district. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening, and the victim succumbed to his injuries while being taken to a hospital on Wednesday morning.The deceased was identified as Sakal Chaudhary, a resident of Pipariya village. Another man, Rambelash Chaudhary, who tried to intervene, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment.According to the victim’s nephew, Bigul Chaudhary, the incident began when his wife went near a canal to answer nature’s call, where she was allegedly harassed by two men—Guddu Chaudhary and Rupesh Chaudhary. On returning home, she informed her family about the incident.Sakal Chaudhary and Rambelash Chaudhary then went to confront the accused at their residence. During the confrontation, they were allegedly attacked by Bhim Chaudhary and Amarnath Chaudhary with sharp-edged weapons, leaving both men critically injured.The injured were first taken to the sub-divisional hospital in Bagaha and later referred to the Govt Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Bettiah. Due to their critical condition, they were further referred to another facility. However, Sakal Chaudhary died on the way on Wednesday morning.Bagaha Town SHO Shailesh Kumar said police reached the spot soon after receiving information and launched an investigation. “The body has been sent for post-mortem, and efforts are on to identify and arrest the accused. Further investigation is underway,” he said.
