Prayagraj: A dispute over payment of labour charges turned fatal in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district, where a 50-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death with a cricket bat by four labourers at the site of his under-construction house, police said on Sunday. One accused has been arrested, while efforts are underway to nab the remaining three.The deceased, identified as Ram Milan Gupta, was a resident of Badhumar village. The incident took place on Saturday evening when Gupta allegedly got into an argument with four labourers—Ramraj, Raju Mushar, Monu and Suraj—over payment of wages. The altercation soon turned violent, with the accused allegedly attacking him with a cricket bat and leaving him critically injured.Gupta was rushed to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.Police on Sunday arrested one of the accused, Ramraj, while teams have been formed to apprehend the remaining three. An FIR has been registered under the relevant sections, and further investigation is underway.
