Coimbatore: A 32-year-old man was arrested for attempting to murder his father with a hammer following an argument over his marriage on Sunday.Saibaba Colony police identified the arrested as S Kannan, 32, of Kondasamy Naidu Street near Velandipalayam in the city. Kannan had been reportedly having frequent quarrels with his father, Somasundaram, 60, as his family was not taking any steps to arrange his marriage.On Sunday evening, when a similar argument broke out between father and son, Kannan grabbed a hammer and repeatedly hit his father on the head. When Somasundaram raised an alarm, Kannan fled the scene.Hearing Somasundaram’s cries for help, neighbours rushed to his help and called for an ambulance. He was subsequently transported to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for treatment.Following a complaint lodged by his wife, police registered a case under section 109 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for attempt to murder. Kannan was subsequently apprehended by police and remanded in custody.
