Hyderabad: A 36-year-old woman was allegedly attacked with a knife by her husband inside the Enkoor police station in Khammam on Monday. According to the complainant, Bhukya Rajani, a labourer and a resident of Yarrabodu Thanda in Khammam, her husband, Bhukya Rambabu, a tractor driver, had been subjecting her to physical and mental harassment by suspecting her fidelity and demanding additional dowry. Unable to bear the harassment, Rajani left her husband and had been staying at her parents’ house for the past few months.On Monday, when she visited a local bank in Erkoor to deposit money related to a self-help group of which is a member, Rambabu allegedly reached the bank and created a nuisance. Based on the complaint from the bank staff, police arrived at the spot, following which Rambabu fled. Police then took Rajani to the police station to record her complaint against Rambabu. While she was at the PS lodging the complaint, Rambabu allegedly arrived and suddenly attacked her with a knife, causing bleeding injuries to her shoulder and wrist.Police immediately overpowered Rambabu and shifted the victim to a nearby hospital for treatment. Based on Rajani’s complaint, a case was registered against Rambabu under Sections 109 (attempt to murder), 85 (subjecting married woman to cruelty) of the BNS and the Dowry Prohibition Act. He was arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
