Kolkata: Police have arrested, Tauhid Muhammad alias Sunny, the main accused in a cheating and criminal intimidation case worth Rs 1.6 crore that was registered at Watgunge Police Station. The accused was produced before the Alipore Court on Monday, which granted police custody for five days.The case was initiated on the basis of a complaint lodged by Om Prakash Shah, director of Chhajer Credit & Investment Pvt. Ltd, located on Sarat Bose Road. In his complaint, Shah alleged that the accused persons, identified as Tauhid, Sabaz Sameer, and Rajesh Shaw alias Teli Rajesh, entered into a criminal conspiracy and fraudulently persuaded him to provide financial assistance.The complainant alleged that between April 22, 2022, and April 16, 2026 the accused received Rs 1.6 crore from him on the promise of returning the money. However, they allegedly failed to repay the amount and misappropriated the funds. Shah further alleged that the accused threatened him with serious consequences. They also brandished firearms to intimidate him.
