Patna: A 45-year-old man undergoing trial in a murder case was shot dead inside his house in Keshari Bigha village under Chhabilapur police station area of Nalanda district late Saturday night. He was released from jail around four months ago in connection with the murder case of a villager. The deceased’s family alleged that around five-six local villagers were involved in the murder. Investigation is going on in the murder, police said.The deceased was identified as Chhote Yadav.According to Chhote’s son Golu Kumar, his father was sleeping inside the house when, around midnight, four-five armed criminals entered and shot Chhote in the head. Golu has named five villages—Dheeraj, Bunty, Birendra, Rajeev and Bhushan—in the FIR.Golu alleged that the killing was linked to an assembly election-related dispute. He said Chhote’s cousin was murdered earlier.Police said that four years ago, Dheeraj’s father Munni was murdered in the village. Chhote was arrested in that case and came out of jail on bail four months ago.Family members are not giving a clear reason for the killing, but police suspect it could be a fallout of the old enmity.Rajgir SDPO Sanjeet Kumar Gupta said, “We received information around 1am that a man was shot dead in Keshari Bigha village. Police reached the spot and found Chhote’s body. An FSL team was called to collect technical evidence from the spot. The body was sent to Sadar Hospital, Biharsharif, for postmortem.”The SDPO said the exact motive behind the murder was yet to be confirmed. Family members were being questioned, CCTV footage was being scanned, and raids were being conducted at possible hideouts to arrest the accused. Police claimed that the case would be cracked soon.
