Malda: Three days after the Kaliachak incident where judicial officers were gheraoed, and a day before the SC hearing, a Malda ADM was served a show-cause notice by DM Rajanbir Singh Kapur on Sunday.ADM Sheikh Ansar Ahamad was charged with dereliction of duty and failure to report the ground situation. A second notice dated April 4 accused him of making unauthorised commitments on the SIR process and sought a reply within seven days.Ahamad led negotiations with agitators on the night of March 31 but failed to secure the release of judicial magistrates gheraoed at the BDO office. He was seen addressing protesters, raising concerns over the SIR of the electoral roll — actions the notice said were beyond his remit. He was also asked to explain his failure to alert higher authorities to the gravity of the situation between 3.30pm and 8.30pm on April 1. Around 10pm, Mofakkerul Islam, the main accused in the Mothabari confinement of judicial officers, handed Ahamad the mic. His assurances helped end the blockade . However, at the Mothabari block office, 20 km away, judicial officers remained confined till late night.Meanwhile, NIA spoke to over 150 people on Sunday ahead of submitting its report to the SC on Monday.
