T’puram: Water supply will be disrupted across many areas in the city on Monday as production at two major water treatment plants at Aruvikkara will be suspended for urgent maintenance work at a Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) substation.According to Kerala Water Authority (KWA), production at the 72 million litres per day (MLD) and 75 MLD treatment plants will be stopped from 11am to 1pm on Monday. The interruption is required to facilitate urgent maintenance work at the KSEB substation that supplies power to the water authority’s facilities at Aruvikkara.The shutdown is expected to affect several densely populated residential areas as well as important commercial and institutional locations under the corporation. KWA has advised consumers in the affected localities to make necessary arrangements and store sufficient water in advance.Water supply will be completely disrupted in Kachani, Nettayam, Vattiyoorkavu, Vazhottukonam, Thuruthumoola, Kodunganoor, Pangode, Kanjirampara, Valiyavila, Thirumala, Thrikkannapuram, Punnakkamugal, Thampanoor, Kunnukuzhy, Vanchiyoor, Kannammoola, Pettah, Perunthanni, Chacka, Kadakampally, Karikkakom, Vettucaud, Poundkadavu, Palayam, Sasthamangalam, Vazhuthacaud, Thycaud, Valiyasala and Jagathy.Several other areas will face partial disruption. These include Paruthippara, Muttada, Kesavadasapuram, Pattom, Ulloor, Medical College, and Kudappanakunnu.KWA has urged people to take precautions ahead of the scheduled shutdown and ensure adequate water is available for essential domestic requirements. Residents have also been advised to use stored water judiciously during the disruption.Though production is scheduled to stop for two hours, restoration of supply to individual areas could depend on the distribution network and operational conditions after the plants resume functioning.A KWA official said the maintenance work is necessary to ensure the reliable functioning of the electrical infrastructure supporting the treatment plants and requested residents to cooperate with the authorities.
