Srinagar, June 26: The Centre has appointed senior IPS officer Mahesh Dixit as the new Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), the country’s premier internal intelligence agency.

A 1993-batch IPS officer of the Telangana cadre, Dixit has extensive experience in intelligence operations, including a significant stint as head of the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau (SIB) in Srinagar, where he supervised intelligence activities across Jammu, Kashmir and Leh.

During his tenure in the Valley, particularly in the aftermath of the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, Dixit was closely associated with intelligence gathering, security coordination and monitoring of the evolving internal security landscape.
