MUMBAI: The Maharashtra government on Tuesday put on hold the CCMP registration process for homeopathic doctors seeking limited practice of modern medicine (allopathy), pending the final decision of the Bombay High Court and further government directions. The decision came after sustained agitation, a strike and representations by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and Central MARD, according to a statement, according to news agency PTI.IMA and Central MARD had been protesting against the proposed grant of Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) registration to homeopathy practitioners who have completed the one-year CCMP (Certificate Course in Modern Pharmacology). They raised concerns over patient safety, professional standards and the protection of modern medical practice. The matter is currently pending before the Bombay high court. The Medical Education and Drugs Department on Tuesday informed the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) that issuance of the relevant CCMP certificates would be appropriate only after the prevailing situation settles and the final decision of the Bombay high court is received. The move effectively puts the CCMP certification process on hold until the court delivers its final decision and the government issues further directions. The development follows the joint agitation, strike and sustained follow-up by Central MARD and IMA, who cited concerns over patient safety, professional standards and the protection of modern medical practice.Central MARD (Maharashtra State Association of Resident Doctors), the apex representative body for postgraduate resident doctors across government medical colleges in the state, welcomed the decision. It said it would continue to monitor the matter until the final judicial decision and a clear, legally sustainable policy are implemented.
