NMC ruling party leader Narendra Borkar submits a proposal to host Maharashtra Kesari Wrestling Championship in Nagpur

Nagpur: Nagpur will host the Maharashtra Kesari wrestling championship in 2026-27 after the Maharashtra State Wrestling Association approved the city’s bid at its annual general meeting in Pimpri-Chinchwad on Saturday.The Senior Group State-level Wrestling Championship, featuring mat and mud bouts, along with the Maharashtra Kesari title contest, will be organised jointly by Nagpur City District Wrestling Association and Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).Former MLC and Nagpur City District Wrestling Association president Sandip Joshi and NMC ruling party leader and co-convener Narendra Borkar had proposed Nagpur as the host city. Association president Ramdas Tadas and secretary-general Yogesh Dodke announced the approval at the AGM.Borkar was felicitated at the meeting. NMC sports officer Piyush Ambulkar was also present.The meeting also discussed the schedule for the Senior Group Greco-Roman Maharashtra Kesari, Women’s Maharashtra Kesari and state-level championships for under-15, under-17 and under-20 wrestlers.It also reviewed the state govt’s Mission Lakshavedh scheme for identifying and nurturing sporting talent.The championship will bring leading wrestlers from across Maharashtra to Nagpur to compete for the Maharashtra Kesari title.
