Prayagraj: Mahakaushal Distillery, which is being set up in Shankargarh, is expected to commence production by Nov this year and once fully operational, it will have the capacity to produce around one lakh litres of ethanol per day.The upcoming facility is expected to boost ethanol production in the region and contribute to the state’s biofuel and industrial output.Distillery owner Rakesh Jaiswal said: “Work is progressing rapidly and the company has deposited the required amount for the project. Installation of some machinery remains pending. We are quite confident that we will inaugurate the distillery in Nov, producing our own brand of liquor.”DM Manish Kumar Verma has directed officials of the departments concerned to provide the company with necessary assistance for completing the project.District excise officer Sushil Kumar Mishra said work on the plant was underway and the required funds had already been deposited by the company.Besides ethanol production, the project is also being seen as a potential source of employment and business opportunities in Shankargarh and adjoining areas.Officials expect more than 200 local families to benefit directly from the project. Once the plant starts operations, employment opportunities are likely to emerge not only within the distillery but also in transportation, material supply and other support services.The distillery may also open the possibility of using local horticultural produce, particularly the famous Allahabadi guava, for making fruit-based alcoholic beverages. Similar use of locally grown fruits by some distilleries has helped create a market for horticultural produce and provided additional opportunities for growers and local workers.
