Mumbai: On the lines of the Centre’s National Oil Spill Disaster Contingency Plan (NOSDCP), the state govt has set up the State Oil Spill Emergency Management Group (SOS-CMG), District Oil Spill Emergency Management Group (DOS-CMG) and Local Oil Spill Emergency Management Group (LOS-CMG) for state and coastal districts for management of oil spill incidents. The emergency management groups will function as per the provisions of the National Oil Spill Disaster Contingency Plan (NOSDCP)-2015.“HNS (Hazardous and Noxious Substance) or oil spill disasters in the maritime sector have the potential to cause major damage to the environment, wildlife and economy. In order to provide prompt and appropriate response in the event of such disaster, the Indian Coast Guard has developed the National Oil Spill Disaster Contingency Plan (NOS-DCP)-2015. The National Oil Spill Disaster Contingency Plan (NOS-DCP) is the highest-level plan of the Govt of India for managing crises arising from oil spills and is an important document for oil spill response. The plan provides for the establishment of State, District and Local Level Emergency Management Groups (CMGs) for the management of oil spills and pollution incidents arising from them in the maritime sector,” a Govt Resolution (GR) stated.
