Chennai: Madras high court has ordered the Krishnagiri district collector to probe an allegation made by a woman that her family is being ostracized from her village on the directions of a kangaroo court. “… Krishnagiri district collector and superintendent of police are directed to conduct enquiry independently in this regard and ensure that no injustice is caused to the petitioner by violating her fundamental rights as contemplated under Article 21 of the Constitution. The exercise shall be completed within 12 weeks,” Justice Krishnan Ramaswamy said. P Revathi, a resident of Billanakuppam village, alleged that her family has been ostracized since Feb 24, 2022, she said in her plea. She alleged that she has been prohibited from drawing water from a public well and purchasing goods from local shops. “The kangaroo court curtailed her worship rights. Villagers are prohibited from participating in the family functions of petitioner. If the petitioner and her family violate the decision, they have to pay 1 lakh as a fine to the kangaroo court. If other public violate the decision, they have to pay 25,000 as a fine,” the petitioner’s counsel said.
