Nagpur: The Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) hopes to clear the last 150-odd houses in Shivangaon village by Dec to pave the way for building the second runway and taxiway for the Nagpur airport during the 30-year-old concession period by GMR Aero.GMR hopes to complete refurbishing the existing terminal in the next 18 months. It would later start work on building the new terminal, which is planned to come up towards the Mihan-SEZ.As the airport expands, Shivangaon would be a crucial location. Sources in MADC said a large number of homes have been cleared. Keeping a humanitarian approach, the corporation is pulling down structures as and when the project affected persons (PAPs) move after getting their alternative arrangement done, which includes home in rehabilitation area provided by the govt, said a source.MADC is the state govt company which is developing the Mihan project, which includes the airport. It is one of the joint venture partners in Mihan India Limited along with Airports Authority of India, which has entered into a concession agreement with GMR Aero.MADC officials said that the acquisition of land and clearing of PAPs’ structures at Isasani village, further towards Hingna, where Indian Air Force (IAF) would be given alternative land, has also been completed. Under the plan, IAF would move out from its existing air base near Shivangaon, giving the land to MADC for airport development. Under the land swap agreement, MADC will be giving 400-odd acres of land to IAF for taking over the existing stations spread over 200 acres.# Air India to restart Nagpur-Delhi flight from Aug 1Air India, which had suspended its services to Delhi from Nagpur due to operational constraints, will restart its services on a daily basis from Aug 1. The Delhi-Nagpur-Delhi flight will reach Nagpur at 2.25pm and fly at 3pm till Aug 31. From Sept 1 to Oct 24, it would land at Nagpur at 8.05am and fly at 8.40am on a daily basis.
