Ludhiana: In the ongoing controversy surrounding the registration of an FIR against a Congress councillor’s husband over an alleged road construction dispute, Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Neeru Katyal Gupta has withdrawn the charges from the junior engineer (JE) and sub-divisional officer (SDO) who filed the original complaint. The matter pertains to the construction project on the stretch from Saggu Chowk to Hambran Road.Reportedly, the road had remained in poor condition for an extended period, causing significant trouble for local residents. A few days ago, activists and several Congress leaders highlighted the issue publicly. A video subsequently went viral, allegedly showing the councillor’s husband slapping a worker engaged in the road repair work. The initial complaint was registered based on the statements of JE Rupinder and SDO Avtar Singh. In their report, they noted that a physical altercation involving several individuals had occurred on the road, prompting the contractor to request police protection to resume the work. However, officials revealed that the action against the two officials was taken because they failed to explicitly name the councillor’s husband in the report, leading to the filing of an unclear account of the incident. Following the withdrawal of their current responsibilities, neither official has been assigned a new charge.
