Ludhiana: The Finance and Contracts Committee (F&CC) of Ludhiana municipal corporation evaluated 108 urban development proposals (resolutions 81 to 188) during a review meeting at the mayor’s camp office near Rose Garden on Tuesday. Facing acute financial constraints, the panel explicitly deferred several infrastructure works, deciding to focus existing civic funds strictly on executing previously approved projects before clearing new initiatives. As a major austerity measure, the committee put 12 resolutions regarding park redevelopments in the Atam Nagar constituency on hold. The frozen bids were flagged as mathematically unreasonable, prompting the formation of an inspection team to verify if the green spaces actually require renovation. This follows a past objection by deputy mayor Prince Johar regarding unnecessary expenditure allocated for Ram Park, which was already in prime physical condition.Despite the fiscal squeeze, the F&CC gave administrative nods to clear critical operational items. The panel approved the procurement of six new poclain machines and sanctioned the hiring of a specialist drainage consultant to engineer a permanent solution for the chronic waterlogging bottleneck at Sherpur Chowk. General resolutions related to standard road construction, water supply maintenance, and sewer cleaning were also greenlit.Conversely, the committee officially cancelled two active road construction proposals and labeled a pavement tile installation project in Model Town as pending. Addressing the root cause of the slowdown, F&CC members revealed that the civic body’s tight liquidity is a major operating hurdle. To mitigate this deficit, the committee escalated the fiscal matter to state leadership in Chandigarh, requesting an immediate release of pending govt scheme funds and Ludhiana’s designated GST revenue share.
