Police have arrested the accused, identified as Shahnawaz (L), and registered an FIR for attempt to murder.

LUCKNOW: A 22-year-old woman was allegedly dragged on a car bonnet and run over after she confronted a man near Janeshwar Mishra Park in Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar Extension over his presence with another woman.Police have arrested the accused, identified as Shahnawaz (26), and registered an FIR for attempt to murder.The incident reportedly followed a tiff after Anamika learned that Shahnawaz had arrived near Janeshwar Mishra Park in his Verna car with another woman. She then reached the spot and confronted him.A heated argument reportedly followed between the two. The woman accompanying Shahnawaz subsequently left the spot as the dispute escalated.Shahnawaz allegedly entered his car and attempted to leave, prompting Anamika to stand in front of the vehicle. He allegedly drove the car forward, hitting her.The impact reportedly left the woman on the bonnet of the moving car. Instead of stopping, the vehicle allegedly continued moving, carrying her for around 20-25 metres.A video of the incident has surfaced on social media, showing the woman clinging to the front of the moving car as she apparently cries out for help.The situation became even more serious when the car allegedly accelerated suddenly, causing the woman to lose her grip and fall onto the road. The vehicle then allegedly passed over her before speeding away.An eyewitness reportedly told police and local reporters that the woman was desperately calling for help after the car started moving.The witness said the vehicle initially moved slowly after the woman attempted to stop it, but the driver later accelerated and fled. The woman fell onto the road and suffered injuries, including an injury to her hand, according to the eyewitness account.The injured woman was taken for medical examination and treatment. Police said she sustained injuries in the incident.Based on the woman’s complaint, an FIR has been registered under Sections 109 (attempt to murder) and 352 (intentional insult) of the BNS against Shahnawaz Ali and Danish. Shahnawaz’s vehicle has also been seized.Police said Shahnawaz operates a construction business while the victim is a student.According to the preliminary police account, Anamika and Shahnawaz were already known to each other. The two were present near Janeshwar Mishra Park on Wednesday morning when a dispute reportedly broke out between them.The woman had been in touch with Shahnawaz for around 18 months after the two reportedly met at a party hosted by a common friend. Sources privy to the probe said the two had not been in communication for the past two months, with Shahnawaz allegedly avoiding her calls and messages.Sources further said the woman had earlier visited Shahnawaz’s house and may have been considering living with him. The circumstances surrounding their relationship and the events leading up to the incident are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.Shahnawaz allegedly told police that Anamika had been following and harassing him for the past six to seven months and had also taken money from him. His claims are being examined as part of the investigation.Police said the exact sequence of events leading to the collision is being established through witness statements, video footage and other evidence.DCP East Deeksha Sharma said police received information about a woman being hit by a car near Janeshwar Mishra Park and immediately reached the location.“Preliminary questioning revealed that the accused and the woman were previously known to each other. A dispute took place between them, following which the man allegedly hit the woman with the car and fled,” the DCP said.She said the injured woman was sent for medical examination and that an attempt-to-murder case was registered on the basis of her complaint.
