Nagpur: Uncertainty over LPG supply has begun to disrupt kitchens during the final days of Ramzan, forcing families and street food vendors to scale down iftar preparations just as households start planning for Eid al-Fitr.Residents across several localities said delays in getting LPG refills left them anxious about managing daily cooking as well as the elaborate meals prepared for Eid al-Fitr, which is likely to be celebrated on March 20 or 21, depending on the sighting of the crescent moon.For many families, the evening meal to break the fast typically includes a range of snacks, sweets, and main dishes. But in recent days, several households have cut down on menus. “We received our last cylinder on February 21, and when we tried to book another one recently, we were told bookings will start only after 25 days, i.e. March 18. So, we are trying to save gas by cooking fewer dishes,” said a resident of Mahesh Nagar.In areas known for iftar snacks, small vendors selling samosas, kebabs, and other delicacies say the LPG shortage is disrupting their daily preparations. “Ramzan evenings are the busiest time for us. If cylinders are not available, it becomes difficult to cook enough snacks for customers,” said a street vendor near Dr Mansha Chowk.Local LPG distributors acknowledged that some consumers have faced delays in refills due to govt guidelines.For now, many households and some vendors are improvising — using induction cooktops and microwave ovens — hoping the supply normalises before Eid.
