Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh continues to maintain a stable supply of LPG and Piped Natural Gas (PNG) despite a moderate rise in demand across domestic and commercial sectors amid the ongoing West Asia conflict.Officials from oil marketing companies (OMCs) and district administrations have assured consumers that adequate stocks were available and supply chains remain fully functional. According to official data, Uttar Pradesh currently has around 4.83 crore domestic LPG consumers served by OMCs including Indane, Bharat Gas and HP Gas. Executive director and state head of Indian Oil Corporation Limited in Uttar Pradesh, Sanjay Bhandari, told TOI that adequate stocks were available statewide and urged consumers to avoid multiple or premature bookings.“As of now we are focused on ensuring hassle-free supply of LPG to domestic consumers. Under the commercial category, only hospitals and educational institutions are being supplied LPG cylinders. Supply to restaurants, eateries and other establishments has been temporarily stopped,” said Bhandari, who also serves as the state-level coordinator for OMCs. In the commercial and industrial category, LPG consumption is largely concentrated in Noida-Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Agra, Kanpur and Lucknow, where restaurants, industries and institutions rely on LPG for operational needs. Lucknow accounts for about 15 lakh LPG consumers, making it one of the largest markets for the domestic sector in UP. The other top four regions are Prayagraj (14 lakh), Agra (12 lakh), Gorakhpur (12 lakh) and Ghaziabad (12 lakh). Together, these five districts account for nearly 65 lakh consumers. Lucknow additional district magistrate (civil supply) Jyoti Gautam said: “Sufficient LPG stock is available in the district. Steps have been taken by the administration and OMCs to prevent hoarding of cylinders.” On average, UP records a daily domestic LPG demand of about 10,000 metric tonnes (TMT) while commercial and industrial demand stands at approximately 0.5 TMT per day. Officials say that while a moderate increase in demand has been observed recently in both segments, the situation is under continuous monitoring to ensure uninterrupted supply. To support distribution across the state, around 4,145 LPG distributors are currently operating in Uttar Pradesh, including 116 distributors in Lucknow alone. Meanwhile, the state also has around 20.25 lakh PNG domestic connections. Lucknow alone has about 82,000 PNG consumers receiving 3.5 lakh standard cubic meters of gas daily, while Agra has around 83,000 connections supplied with 2.25 lakh standard cubic meters per day. DGM marketing of Green Gas Limited, Praveen Singh, said: “The company is currently meeting 100% of PNG demand in its operational areas. We assure consumers that there is no need for panic.”
