Kolkata: Clouds generated by a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal have started reaching the city, bringing passing monsoon showers. The Met office has predicted similar rain spells on Saturday, followed by heavier and more widespread rainfall on Sunday.“This low-pressure area is set to become more marked and organised in the next two days. Hence, for Kolkata, we can expect a more uniform rain with wider coverage on Sunday. We will continue to see the passing monsoon showers on Saturday,” said Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) Kolkata head HR Biswas.According to the Met officials, passing monsoon showers are short, localised downpours characteristic of the southwest monsoon season. Due to the localised rain pattern, pockets in southern parts of the city got more rain than in north and central Kolkata. Alipore recorded a rain amount of around 15 mm.According to a special IMD bulletin, the low-pressure area is now over northwest Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood along with an associated cyclonic circulation tilting southwestwards with height. This system is to become more marked during the next two days.“Under the influence of the above system, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur over some districts of south Bengal between July 3 and July 6. Also, thunderstorm and associated activities are very likely to continue over some districts,” said the special bulletin.
