Shimla: Leader of the opposition in Himachal Pradesh assembly, Jai Ram Thakur, on Saturday accused the Congress govt of betraying the state’s orchardists and failing to fulfil its promises.Addressing a party workers’ convention in Jubbal-Nawar-Kotkhai in Shimla district, Thakur alleged that apple growers were awaiting payments under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS), while govt was finding ways to avoid procuring their entire produce. He claimed govt focused on closing schools and hospitals, taking loans and protecting its position instead of promoting development. The state’s debt has reached Rs 1.20 lakh crore, he added. The former CM said the BJP’s performance in panchayat elections reflected growing public support and predicted a historic victory for the party in Shimla district in the upcoming assembly elections. In a separate statement, Thakur welcomed the Centre’s decision to add 320 PG medical seats in Himachal Pradesh with a Rs 415 crore grant. Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union health minister J P Nadda, he urged CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to focus on implementation rather than claiming credit. He alleged that healthcare facilities had deteriorated under the Congress govt.
