Kolkata: CM Mamata Banerjee on Sunday extended greetings to Bengal on Maha Shivaratri, highlighting her govt’s 15-year record of renovating and developing religious sites across communities to maintain religious harmony.Paying tribute to Lord Shiva in an X post, the CM detailed prominent Shiva temple restoration projects, including the Jalpesh Temple in Jalpaiguri, where a skywalk was built for devotees.She noted the special emphasis on developing Tarakeswar Temple in Hooghly, with projects including beautification, lighting and road alongside Dudhpukur.She listed the work carried out in districts, such as the renovation of 108 Shiva Temples in Burdwan, illumination of 108 Shiva temples in Kalna (East Burdwan) and Hiranyagarbha Shiva Temple in Cooch Behar. Pramatheswar Jiu Shiva Temple in North Dinajpur, tourism infrastructure at Bakreswar, Shyamaleswar Shiva Temple in Dantan, Shiva Temple in Baksa Rajeswar Shiva Temple in Darhatta, and Shiva Temple in Harirampur, Jangipara.Banerjee further said the govt was constructing ‘Mahakal Mahatirth’ in Siliguri — a tribute to Mahakal, the Rudra form of Shiva — which will house the world’s tallest Shiva statue.
