Times News NetworkKanpur: A long-standing rivalry in the city’s Panki area escalated into a violent clash between two groups of youths. There was intense stone-pelting and gunfire, and country-made bombs were also used. CCTV footage of the incident has emerged as well, in which the sound of four explosions can be heard within just 40 seconds.As a result of the firing, one youth was badly injured and was taken to hospital. The incident relates to F Block in the Panki police station area. Local residents said the two sides came face to face because of an old dispute. It is alleged that Abhay Yadav, along with several companions, arrived there and attacked Nitesh Dubey of Katra.During the confrontation, both sides reportedly threw stones. The alleged attackers are said to have fired shots and also hurled country-made bombs. Nitesh Dubey sustained serious injuries after being struck by a bullet. The gunfire and blasts led to panic and a rush in the locality. After being alerted by residents, police arrived and took the injured to the LLR Hospital.CCTV visuals have surfaced showing a group of youths attacking, followed by people running after the explosions. Police are working to identify those involved using the footage. Recordings from other nearby cameras are also being checked.Panki police station in-charge Dinesh Bisht said that, at first glance, the case appears linked to an earlier rivalry. Based on the injured youth’s statement, the CCTV footage, and other evidence, a case is being filed and attempts are underway to arrest the accused.
