Pune: A long-pending glass skywalk project in Lonavla has crossed a milestone after the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) finalised the tender draft on Thursday, officials concerned told TOI.The Rs909-crore Lion and Tiger Point Tourism Development Project, spearheaded by PMRDA, features the state’s longest glass skywalk – a 125-metre-long, six-metre-wide and a 23-metre cantilevered section inspired by the Grand Canyon Skywalk in the US.“The tender draft has been finalised, and the remaining approval process is being completed. The request for proposal (RFP) is expected to be floated shortly,” a PMRDA official said. The tender draft was reviewed at a meeting of the tender scrutiny committee at PMRDA headquarters in Akurdi. Metropolitan commissioner Abhijit Chaudhary, Pune district collector Jitendra Dudi and additional metropolitan commissioner K Manjulakshmi attended the meeting. The project was proposed to be implemented under the public-private partnership (PPP) model, with the authority preparing to invite bids after completing the remaining technical approvals. In June 2025, a PMRDA official had told TOI that despite floating tenders twice, including international bids, PMRDA failed to find even one taker. Now, this tendering would be another such attempt to attract bidders. The project has already received technical approval and rate analysis has been completed, officials said.In Oct 2025, however, several private players, including firms managing major amusement parks, showed interest in running the facility. The skywalk, planned in the Kurwande area, is being developed under the Pune district pilgrimage and tourism destination development scheme. The project will feature an entrance plaza, viewing gallery, restaurant, parking facilities, a dedicated power substation and toilets. Landscaping and beautification of the surrounding area are also part of the plan.Under the model, a selected private partner will be responsible for developing and operating the facility, officials said.
