Madikeri: The police department has introduced an innovative effort to prevent theft in the homes in Kodagu district. A new programme called ‘Locked House Beat System’ has been introduced, through which the police will provide security to houses.The number of single houses has increased in the hilly areas in Kodagu. Cases of people breaking in and robbing money and gold when no one is home, have been increasing. There have also been reports of theft in homes in the urban areas.Kodagu police department has has taken effective steps to prevent the transportation and sale of drugs, and other crimes. “The ‘Locked House Beat System’ has been introduced to control theft in houses, and the department is hopeful that with the cooperation of the locals, incidents of robbery can be controlled,” opined Kodagu SP Bindu Mani.The new system has been developed by the district police department to help secure locked homes. If the name, address, location of the house, along with the date of leaving the house, is provided to the police control room, police force will provide appropriate security and keep an eye on the locked homes through regular inspections.
