Chikkamagaluru: The death of a woman in an Indian bison attack has irked residents and party functionaries who are now demanding the govt and forest department to protect lives from wild animal attacks.BJP functionary Deepak Doddaiah and his supporters, who visited the house of Sheela, who lost her life in an attack by a gaur, alleged that Congress MLA Natana Motamma has failed to take up the issue of human-animal conflict seriously.“We will no longer tolerate govt’s negligence. Scientific and permanent measures must be implemented immediately to protect farmers’ lives. Failing which, we will mobilise farmers and the public for a massive and aggressive protest,” he said.“The death of the woman in the attack near Nosihadlu village, close to Bilagali in Baluru hobli of the taluk, is unfortunate, and state govt should be held responsible,” Doddaiah said. He demanded that the govt immediately provide a permanent solution to the human-wildlife conflict.Sheela was working in a coffee estate when a herd of 25 to 30 Indian gaurs attacked her. She suffered serious injuries and died on the way to hospital. He urged the govt to pay compensation as per norms and also demanded special financial aid from the chief minister’s relief fund. He also urged the forest department to bear complete education expenses of her two daughters and also urged it to provide monthly livelihood assistance.Deaths of innocent people due to elephant and gaur attacks in Mudigere constituency are not new. Despite raising this issue multiple times, the govt and forest department failed to find a permanent solution, Doddaiah alleged.Local villagers expressed anger that the local MLA Nayana Motamma did not visit the spot or console the bereaved family.
